On Recon I was running a profile with the colorless but plainspoken handle of Sane Masochist.

I’ve played with various user names and profile texts on and off since I first used the web to meet people back in 1999.

Sane Masochist attracted almost no profile views. The fewest of any profile that I’ve posted to Recon. Since no one read the profile it wasn’t the text but the name itself.

Nobody wanted a sane masochist. I’ll see how a more exiting name fares.

I’m familiar with Bill Ward’s career in overall outline. He was a golden age comic book artist, did good girl art, glamour pin-up illustrations, jokes and cartoons and eventually Femdom and M/f BDSM art. When I original read this guy’s profile I thought it a very good example of a positive profile by a likeable top. But there was nothing that could be cleanly excerpted.

Then he wrote me:

The guy I quote above doesn’t drive, nor do I so nothing will come of that.

A self-proclaimed – it isn’t as if there’s a licensing authority for the term – Old Guard Master shares his view of the M/s power exchange:

The distance between Master and that of Slave is greater than the Distance between Man and Ape.

The Master is African-American so given the recent media furors over the racial implications of images of primates this is an exceptionally unfortuneate metaphor.

But would be a damn silly assertion to make outside of BDSM porn anytime.
